Where the role fits in our organisation
Partnerships and CommunitiesOur Partnerships and Communities Group are responsible for our work with the third sector, partners and communities across Dumfries and Galloway. The group leads on community insights and involvement, Locality Hubs, sector advice, training and development, building sector capacity, encouraging community involvement and representing the third sector. Key partnerships are with Dumfries and Galloway Council, NHS Dumfries and Galloway, Community Planning, Scottish Government and national sector bodies. The team includes Lead Officers, Development Officers, Support Officers, Coordinators and professional advisors.

£26,400What You'll Do
We are looking for a passionate community advocate who can get to know the third sector across their area, provide the necessary advice and support and can connect with communities and encourage involvement. The successful candidate will enjoy building new connections and relationships, be resourceful and apply problem solving skills and make links across the sector and with partners for improved collaboration. There will also be lots of working across different teams and with other Locality Development Officers to maximise our effectiveness across Dumfries and Galloway.
- Support capacity building for third sector organisations across Dumfries and Galloway and the assigned locality, including direct advice, training programmes and workshops and gathering local experiences and insights to help build our knowledge of our sector.
- Develop and manage relationships and partnership working with a variety of organisations to support the role of, and capacity within, the third sector.
- Work with other Locality Development Officers to share insights and experience to improve the offer to the sector and provide additional help/cover where required.
- Contribute to the development of Locality Hubs as part of the Community Planning Partnership, hosting the hub for your allocated area. This also includes encouraging community involvement.
- Identify opportunities to work with other workstreams in TSDG to maximise the effectiveness of Locality Hubs, including plans to develop participation and ensure the most local input from a wide range of stakeholders.
- Apply agreed methods to consistently capture data, insights and learnings from locality working that helps inform future planning and resourcing.
More about you
- You will be able to demonstrate working knowledge gained from either community development or working within the third sector.
- You will be able to show your understanding of the third sector, the scope of the sector’s work and challenges faced.
- You will be able to show examples of effective application of key skills, including organisation and planning, problem solving, building presentations, writing reports.
- You will have had experience of building effective professional relationships inside and outside of your organisation.
- You will be able to show your commitment improvement and demonstrating impact.
- You may have had experience of running effective community engagement/involvement processes.
